The Liar Audition/Interview Information and FAQ

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2021 Fall Play, The Liar, adapted by David Ives! Here you will find answers to some frequently asked questions and some tips for how to be successful in your audition or interview.

When are auditions?
Tuesday, August 31st at 2:30 pm

Where should I go?
Enter through the main doors of the auditorium - this is to your right when you enter the school through the arts entrance (by the bus loop), or to your left when you come from the cafeteria, or down the hall from the main office.

When should I arrive?
You can enter the auditorium right after school - plan to warm up independently, or participate in a group warm-up led by the ITS Board Members. Auditions will begin at 2:30 pm.

When will I be finished?
Auditions will take place in the order in which you sign up. The sign up link is available now at tiny.cc/apexplay. If you are hoping to finish sooner, please sign up promptly. The last group should be finished by 4:00 pm.

What should I prepare?
Prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue. This should be memorized. The internet is a great starting place to find an audition piece!

What if I've never auditioned for a show before?
We will be so glad to see you! If you have never prepared a monologue before, we will have some pieces available for you to read. However, preparation is the best way to beat nerves! Plan to attend the Theatre Kickoff meeting on Thursday, August 26th, and you will be able to meet upperclassmen who will be happy to help you.

What is the time commitment like?
We will rehearse 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) beginning on Friday, September 3rd. The show runs from October 14th-16th. Rehearsals will typically last until 4:30 or 5:00 pm until the week before the show, at which time they will last until 5:30 pm. We may also hold some supplemental Saturday rehearsals, since this is a particularly short production process. We will have a full day tech rehearsal on Saturday, October 9th. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal - you will receive a detailed schedule at the first cast and crew meeting. The more your character is on stage, the more you can expect to be scheduled for rehearsal.

What if I have prior commitments, but still want to be involved?
You will have an opportunity to submit all conflicts on your audition form. Please be honest about your conflicts - in some cases this can affect casting decisions, but it is respectful to your ensemble to be upfront about prior commitments. A few conflicts won't prevent you from being cast - many conflicts might this time, but there will be other opportunities in the future, and you can always interview for a position on the crew, which often requires fewer rehearsals!

How many actors will be cast?
We are planning to have TWO CASTS! This means more opportunities & a safety net in case of mandatory quarantines (wear your mask correctly & consistently!!) The goal is to double cast all roles EXCEPT Dorante and Cliton. The "Liar Liar" cast will perform at the Tuesday 3pm preview, Thursday at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm. The "Pants on Fire" cast will perform at the Wednesday 7pm preview, and Friday & Saturday nights at 7pm. All of this, of course, is the *plan* and is subject to change.

When will I find out if I've been cast?
Callbacks will take place on Thursday, September 2nd after school in the auditorium. The full company list (cast and crew) will be posted by 10pm that night!

What should I do if I'm not cast?
If you're not cast this time, it's perfectly normal to feel disappointed, and sometimes upset or angry. Allow yourself 24 hours to experience these feelings, and do so with the support of friends and family - please avoid posting on social media or spreading negative energy by gossiping with other members of the Peak Players Ensemble. This creates a toxic environment to begin the rehearsal process. Once 24 hours have passed, allow yourself to move on, and to focus on how you can improve for the next opportunity. Remember, casting decisions are influenced by many factors, and not being cast does not necessarily reflect your talent or ability - try to separate the audition from the results in your mind - if you are proud of your audition, that is what really matters!

What if I want to be involved on the backstage crew?
Crew interviews will take place on Wednesday, September 1st after school in the 2dio (room 1205). You should attend crew interviews if you are only interested in being considered for a position on the crew, or if you are interested in being involved any way, and plan to audition as well (we love these people!) There will not be makeup crew interviews are not cast and then decide you want to help on the crew, so plan ahead!

How do I sign up to audition or interview?
Visit tiny.cc/apexplay to sign up if you would like to audition, or audition and interview for a position on the crew.
Visit tiny.cc/apexcrew if you are only interested in interviewing for a position on the crew.
