The Liar Audition/Interview Information and FAQ

8/20/2021

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2021 Fall Play, The Liar, adapted by David Ives! Here you will find answers to some frequently asked questions and some tips for how to be successful in your audition or interview.

When are auditions?
Tuesday, August 31st at 2:30 pm

Where should I go?
Enter through the main doors of the auditorium - this is to your right when you enter the school through the arts entrance (by the bus loop), or to your left when you come from the cafeteria, or down the hall from the main office.

When should I arrive?
You can enter the auditorium right after school - plan to warm up independently, or participate in a group warm-up led by the ITS Board Members. Auditions will begin at 2:30 pm.

When will I be finished?
Auditions will take place in the order in which you sign up. The sign up link is available now at tiny.cc/apexplay. If you are hoping to finish sooner, please sign up promptly. The last group should be finished by 4:00 pm.

What should I prepare?
Prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue. This should be memorized. The internet is a great starting place to find an audition piece!

What if I've never auditioned for a show before?
We will be so glad to see you! If you have never prepared a monologue before, we will have some pieces available for you to read. However, preparation is the best way to beat nerves! Plan to attend the Theatre Kickoff meeting on Thursday, August 26th, and you will be able to meet upperclassmen who will be happy to help you.

What is the time commitment like?
We will rehearse 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) beginning on Friday, September 3rd. The show runs from October 14th-16th. Rehearsals will typically last until 4:30 or 5:00 pm until the week before the show, at which time they will last until 5:30 pm. We may also hold some supplemental Saturday rehearsals, since this is a particularly short production process. We will have a full day tech rehearsal on Saturday, October 9th. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal - you will receive a detailed schedule at the first cast and crew meeting. The more your character is on stage, the more you can expect to be scheduled for rehearsal.

What if I have prior commitments, but still want to be involved?
You will have an opportunity to submit all conflicts on your audition form. Please be honest about your conflicts - in some cases this can affect casting decisions, but it is respectful to your ensemble to be upfront about prior commitments. A few conflicts won't prevent you from being cast - many conflicts might this time, but there will be other opportunities in the future, and you can always interview for a position on the crew, which often requires fewer rehearsals!

How many actors will be cast?
We are planning to have TWO CASTS! This means more opportunities & a safety net in case of mandatory quarantines (wear your mask correctly & consistently!!) The goal is to double cast all roles EXCEPT Dorante and Cliton. The "Liar Liar" cast will perform at the Tuesday 3pm preview, Thursday at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm. The "Pants on Fire" cast will perform at the Wednesday 7pm preview, and Friday & Saturday nights at 7pm. All of this, of course, is the *plan* and is subject to change.

When will I find out if I've been cast?
Callbacks will take place on Thursday, September 2nd after school in the auditorium. The full company list (cast and crew) will be posted by 10pm that night!

What should I do if I'm not cast?
If you're not cast this time, it's perfectly normal to feel disappointed, and sometimes upset or angry. Allow yourself 24 hours to experience these feelings, and do so with the support of friends and family - please avoid posting on social media or spreading negative energy by gossiping with other members of the Peak Players Ensemble. This creates a toxic environment to begin the rehearsal process. Once 24 hours have passed, allow yourself to move on, and to focus on how you can improve for the next opportunity. Remember, casting decisions are influenced by many factors, and not being cast does not necessarily reflect your talent or ability - try to separate the audition from the results in your mind - if you are proud of your audition, that is what really matters!

What if I want to be involved on the backstage crew?
Crew interviews will take place on Wednesday, September 1st after school in the 2dio (room 1205). You should attend crew interviews if you are only interested in being considered for a position on the crew, or if you are interested in being involved any way, and plan to audition as well (we love these people!) There will not be makeup crew interviews are not cast and then decide you want to help on the crew, so plan ahead!

How do I sign up to audition or interview?
Visit tiny.cc/apexplay to sign up if you would like to audition, or audition and interview for a position on the crew.
Visit tiny.cc/apexcrew if you are only interested in interviewing for a position on the crew.

Peak Players Pandemic Productions Presents a Podcast!

9/9/2020

Picture
"Whaaaaaaaat?"
For the Fall Production this year, we will be devising an original audio drama, then recording and producing it as a podcast!

How can I audition?
Submit a Flipgrid video of yourself telling a one-minute story that you made up! Use this link to submit your video:
www.flipgrid.com/apexpeakplayers
Videos must be submitted no later than 2:30 pm on Thursday, September 24th, and will not be accepted late.
You also need to complete this Google Form - log in with your WCPSS student email:
docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVkHLd0J4_jYG6RYXu-5H1ZhnaQtWWPv0v764yPEfYNh6N3g/viewform?usp=sf_link

What will the rehearsal schedule be like?
Click here to view the tentative rehearsal schedule.

How many actors will be cast?
I am looking for approximately 8 "series regulars" who will collectively devise the story, and voice the main characters.
I will also cast 4-6 "featured performers" who will devise and record the podcast intro, conclusion, two commercials, and will voice supporting characters in the podcast. These actors will have a more abbreviated rehearsal schedule.
All of this is flexible, however, depending on what happens at the auditions! I am looking to put together a team of diverse and creative individuals who will collaborate well and compliment each other's strengths.

What will the process be like?
We will begin with a lot of team-building exercises, followed by working through some brainstorming activities including writing prompts, movement exercises, etc. We will then move into some specific planning for the plot and characters, working toward creating a final version of the script. Once that is ready, we will rehearse the script, then record it! Then, it will go into post-production with our sound engineers.

How about crew?
Crew interviews will take place on Monday, September 21st, by appointment (on Google Meet).
Sign up for an appointment here: www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0448A8A72DA1F94-crew
You also need to complete this Google Form - log in with your WCPSS email address:
 docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSct4H3giFHEsqj1J1GGjMf5sS0_cVNeSWO7OAwiEo4MK5tNbQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
I am looking for stage managers, scribes (to write down the script as it is being devised), audio editors and engineers, maybe composers?!, publicity artists (think graphic design), and foley artists (to create and record sound effects!) Have an idea for another position that you think would be helpful? Share it at the interview!

When will crew members need to attend rehearsals?
All of this, like everything, is my best guess at this moment, but is subject to change:
The stage managers would attend every rehearsal.
Scribes should be prepared to attend rehearsals the weeks of October 12th and 19th.
Composers, publicity artists, and foley artists would need to attend sporadically to get an idea of the story, and then work complete a lot of work independently.
Audio editors and engineers would work from the time the recording is complete (by November 10th) until the final product is ready for release (by November 26th).

Spring Musical Audition/Interview Information and FAQ

11/13/2019

Thanks for your interest in participating in the Spring Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone! Here you will find answers to some frequently asked questions, and some tips for how to be most successful in your audition or interview.

When are auditions?

Wednesday, December 4th and Thursday, December 5th - but you need to attend an audition workshop on either November 21st (boys) or November 22nd (girls) to learn the songs and dance you will need to perform at the audition. The workshops will begin in the chorus room promptly at 2:30, and will last until 4:15 pm.

Where should I go for the audition?
Enter through the main doors of the auditorium - this is to your right when you enter the school through the arts entrance (by the bus loop), or to your left when you come from the cafeteria, or down the hall from the main office.

When should I arrive?
You can enter the auditorium right after school - plan to warm up independently, or participate in a group warm-up led by the ITS Board Members. Auditions will begin at 2:30 pm.

When will I be finished?
Auditions will take place in the order in which you sign up. The link is on the home page of www.apexdrama.com. If you are hoping to finish sooner, please sign up promptly. The last group should be finished by 5:00 pm.

What should I prepare?
Following the audition workshop, you should practice the dance you learned, which you will perform in a group for the audition. You should also practice all of the songs, but choose one to memorize and perform at the audition. You may be asked to sing one or more of the other songs you learned at the workshop - so be sure to practice all of them.
You do not need to prepare a monologue for the audition, but you do need to treat your song as a monologue! We will be looking for people who can act, sing, and dance - all at the same time!

What if I've never auditioned for a show before?
We will be so glad to see you! Preparation is the best way to beat nerves. Following the audition workshop, consider asking an upperclassman to help you rehearse.

What is the time commitment like?
Prior to winter break, we will have a few rehearsals to begin to learn music and dance. Occasionally, we will have dance rehearsal on a Saturday afternoon. Following the winter break, we will begin daily rehearsals, which will run from 2:30-4:30 pm. You will only be called to rehearsal on the days that we are working songs and scenes that you are in - this means that the larger the role, the more often you will need to attend rehearsals. No conflicts are permitted beginning February 21st, once we begin technical rehearsals. At that time, rehearsals will run a bit longer, until 5:00 or 5:30 pm. All cast and crew will be called to tech Saturday, on February 29th. The show runs from March 4th-7th, 2020. It is a big time commitment, and you are expected to manage your time effectively to balance school work and rehearsals. You must be honest about your conflicts on your audition form, and organize your calendar - the detailed rehearsal schedule is built around actor conflicts, so it is important that your schedule does not change, except in the case of emergency.

When will I find out if I've been cast?
Callbacks will take place on Friday, December 6th after school in the auditorium. The full company list (cast and crew) will be posted by noon on Saturday, December 7th (hopefully!)

Remember, casting decisions are influenced by many factors, and not being cast does not necessarily reflect your talent or ability - try to separate the audition from the results in your mind - if you are proud of your audition, that is what really matters!

What if I want to be involved on the backstage crew?
Crew interviews will take place on Tuesday, December 3rd after school in the Studio (room 1241). You should attend crew interviews if you are only interested in being considered for a position on the crew, or if you are interested in being involved any way, and plan to audition as well (we love these people!) There will not be makeup crew interviews if you audition first and then decide you want to interview, so plan ahead!

How do I sign up to audition or interview?
